When our engineers are carrying out maintenance checks, they have a thorough checklist that they follow to ensure nothing is missed — here’s a general idea of what you can expect.
One of the first things our engineers will check is the outside of the cart. First of all, they will check if the bulbs are all working. If any bulbs have blown or aren’t working as they should, they will be replaced.
The next thing to check outside the cart will be the door panels. It’s important to ensure they’re opening and closing as they should with no obstructions and they are not damaged.
Finally, our engineers will be checking that all external alarms are functioning. The main alarms to check are smoke detectors, fire alarms and emergency alarms.
The inside of the cart will be checked next. These checks will first include checking for any damage in the cart. This could be damage to the walls, ceiling and handrails and can vary from environmental factors to accidental human damage.
The next thing that will be checked is the elevator buttons. This includes the floor buttons, the emergency stop button and the emergency alarm button. All of these must be in good working order so that passengers can be kept safe at all times. It’s also important that the emergency alarm button connects to an external source, typically an emergency line or 999.
Finally, our engineers will check if any bulbs inside the cart need to be replaced, this includes ceiling bulbs, button bulbs and display bulbs.
Our engineers will also check the top of the cart. During these checks, they will ensure that all lift mechanisms are in good condition and working correctly, including the brakes.
They will also check the elevator cables for any wear and tear to identify any issues before they become a significant problem.
Whilst on top of the cart, the engineers will also inspect and review any signs of rodents or rodent damage along the hoistway that may affect the safety and performance of the lift.
Finally, the engineers will ensure that access to the emergency hatch is easy and safe.
The pit of the elevator is a crucial part of any elevator system and needs to be maintained correctly. Our engineers will ensure there is proper and easy access to the pit for other engineers and technicians. They will also inspect the pit to ensure the necessary clearance.
As well as this, they will check that the frame of the cart is in good condition. They will report any damage or any issues that may need repairing or addressing.
The machine room is where a lot of the elevator electrics are kept, this must be maintained efficiently to ensure safety. Our engineers will inspect the electrical wiring for any imperfections or fraying, they’ll also check oil levels and ensure all systems are appropriately lubricated.
They will also make sure that there is enough headroom and clear access for technicians and equipment with no obstructions should it be needed.
